OPEN STUDIO TIME / Focus on Gel Plate Printing

This week you may bring your own projects as usual OR bring supplies to join in a gel plate printing session! Learn techniques of layering patterns and color, cutting your own stencils and masks (or use ready made), make stamps, and brainstorm as a group! If you have always wanted to try this to use in your altered books, ATC's or mixed media art, gather your courage, creativity and supplies and come in to the studio! Basic supply list : Gelli, Gel, or home-made gelatin plate. Fluid style paints...your favorite colors; craft paints will work. Brayer to spread paint on plate, items such as bubble wrap, combs, stencils, etc. $5 studio fee due at session.

The studio space we rent belongs  to all WAL members! When the space is not used for scheduled classes or workshops, members may arrange to use it for a reasonable fee which is applied to our rent and costs. On Wednesday afternoons (and many Fridays!) we open the doors to all members to come work on projects or socialize, get inspiration and free advice, borrow our library books, etc. Once or twice a month a member may offer a focussed session, and give a demo to those who are interested in learning new skills. If you would like to share something please talk to Brenda McDougal (yakiartist@gmail.com) or Lauren Combs (lp313combs54@hotmail.com)

We ask for a nominal donation of $2 to help pay for studio expenses for open studios and $5 for a focussed session. Supplies are not provided.

WAL is my home group of artist friends. I have painted with many of you and some of you have already taken my workshops in which I cover color theory and a variety of skills necessary to achieve mastery in your work. This year I will do more of a deep dive into design and composition. Discussing strategies for building solid paintings that achieve good design, rhythm, balance and etcetera. Along the way, I’ll show you examples of my own work and artists whose work I admire and we will get outside too, squinting our way to making solid designs of our own.

You will experience informative and humorous classroom instruction along with daily time at your easel.

What do you get when you take a plein air workshop with me? You will experience informative and humorous classroom instruction along with daily time at your easel.

Sign up soon for my March workshop and jump to YOUR next level in painting!

    • Color Theory• Drawing• Design/Composition• Value• Brushwork• Pros and Cons of Photography• and So Much More

Not only is Suzie an accomplished Plein Air painter, AND portrait artist, but she is one of the nicest people you’ll meet. When having a conversation with her, you get the feeling that she’s really listening. She’ll offer you good and constructive advice, and throw in a couple of favors as well! In the short time that I’ve known her, she’s bent over backward for me. She’s a kind, “giving”, artist.” Marjorie Hicks

"Wow! I learned so much and am ready to go to the next level by way of improved value in my paintings. Suzie was well organized, presented the material in a clear manner and was patient with all the questions I’m sure she’s answered hundreds of times. I definitely recommend her to others!” Elyse Taylor
